In this one hour cruise on the Adelaide River, you will see Saltwater Crocodiles demonstrating their amazing hunting techniques. All of our staff are avid wildlife guides that know the crocs individually by name and personality! All of our crew are issued with Wildlife Permits by NT Parks & Wildlife for our interactions, and no animals are harmed in any way during our wildlife interactions. We boast an internationally recognized, industry-first animal ethics policy.
We are the only 100% indigenous owned jumping crocodile cruise, and a registered not-for-profit organisation, so your support helps to directly fund community projects and support for the Anindilyakwa people of Groote Eylandt.
Hours: 8am-4:30pm excluding Christmas Day and New Years Day
Jumping crocodile cruises on the Adelaide River as we know them today began in the 1970s with Stefan’s River Safaris, started by ex-croc hunter Stefan Sebesken when he began to take tourists onto the river on his boat, the Daniella. Stefan entertained his tour guests with his resident crocodile pal, Shonky, by feeding him from his boat and jetty, eventually realising that Shonky was able to jump out of the water for food. Stefan’s River Safaris operated from the area where the current public boat ramp is today, next to the Adelaide River bridge.
This paved the way for crocodile cruises as we know them today on the Adelaide River, and have become an iconic attraction for the Top End, thanks to Stefan and Shonky!
Arirrki Aboriginal Corporation of Groote Eylandt purchased Spectacular Crocodile Cruises around 2005 from the previous owner who had ties to Groote Eylandt. Our Neniyuwangkwa (Old man, clan patriarch), Abel Lalara seized the unique opportunity to expand their reach onto the mainland and share their equally unique culture with the rest of the NT.
